Blindspotting is a movie that Hamilton’s Daveed Diggs co-wrote (and stars in), about — this is woefully oversimplifying — race and gentrification, against the backdrop of Oakland. I heard it called a darkly funny movie bubbling with social commentary, and it’s supposed to be super. And, it’s the kind of niche project that may never have happened without Hamilton. I’m not trying to say all things revolve around that musical, but it gave Diggs stroke in this town, and he’s clearly a fresh and strong talent — who might not have gotten this off the ground without that theatrical platform. Three cheers for new voices.
