I can’t believe it’s been 15 years of Christian Siriano — I am so happy he’s been this successful, although he still seems to have a few wounds he’s licking from along the way. He told Fashionista:
“I stopped making clothes that everybody thought they wanted me to do. I just started making things that I love to do, and I’m glad that a lot of people that want to wear them caught on,” said Siriano, reflecting on his journey as a designer. “Even if you don’t have everybody on your side — I mean, I feel great when Janet Jackson calls and wants five looks.”
One of the smartest things he did was reject fashion’s snobbiness about what kind of women are fun to design for, and instead directly dispel it with an inclusive runway AND red carpet business. May we have at least 15 more.
