Earlier today I said that Ralph had recreated a barn for his show (at the Brooklyn Navy Yard), but apparently, per him, it’s meant to be an artist’s loft, and the show is not so much Western as “about a new kind of romance— cool and sophisticated” and also “the stories of the woman I design for whose individuality and artistic spirit are a canvas for her own self-expression.” That’s a lot of words to say nothing substantial. Some of this is very pretty, some classic, some veers hippie; there are colors in the middle and a lot of metallics, and none of it is really world-shaking individuality, but I’m not sure Ralph Lauren as a brand is REALLY about that, no matter what he says.
