I’m very excited for this movie, based on Angie Thomas’s excellent book. They also had to recast a major role six months in because the actor was caught on film using racial slurs — KJ Apa took his part, though he’s ostensibly up in Vancouver shooting Riverdale so he didn’t come to the premiere — and I’m always curious how productions rebound from that. Not that we’ll be able to tell, I suppose, but hopefully the chemistry is there. The book deserves it. Hooray for important stories, diverse casts, and female authors of color.
