This “Rebels and Rule Breakers” panel seems to focus on women in Netflix shows, and I’m guessing is their attempt at a For Your Consideration even that isn’t specifically called that. Mary J. Blige is on Umbrella Academy, which I didn’t know, and we also have GLOW and Dead To Me and Russian Doll represented here. Listen, people complain a lot about how there’s Too Much TV Right Now, but honestly, if any of these streaming services slow down or stop, women are hosed. Because they are the ones consistently interested in telling stories about all the sides of us — consider also, for example, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Shrill, and the stuff on CBS All-Access. (I’m happy to report CBS is going to air season one of The Good Fight on regular TV this summer, but aren’t they already on season three or four online? Is this too little, too late?) Networks don’t take creative chances, by and large — there are exceptions, like the messy benches on The Good Place — so thank you, Peak TV, for creating interesting jobs for a lot of interesting ladies.
