With thanks to a friend for DM’ing the headline suggestion (a reference to our Stanley Cup posts): YAY! The Lionesses gutted out an overtime won, 2-1, on their home soil in front of a boatload of screaming fans. They won the Euro for the first time ever while also handing Germany its first ever loss in a Euro final, so double the history and double the fun. Or, double the crushing heartbreak, if you’re Germany; that team played very, very well, with several scary-close calls on goal and a relentlessness that meant the win was in doubt until the second the ref blew the whistle. They will be a force to be reckoned with when the World Cup comes around in 2023.

I don’t even know what the alleged foul was, or whether it got called. I watched, and I don’t remember. Only the ferocity stuck with me. I am going to carry this WHOLE MOOD with me this year for when I need it.
