This is sort of a cursory glance at the French Open 2025 kits, because I didn’t get a chance to sort through the pics until just now and there are thousands upon thousands. If I missed a wacky one, please let me know in the comments! I’m really bummed that Coco and Maddie are playing today and not in a final — that’s the literal luck, or lack thereof, of the draw; by the time you read this, we should know the outcome — and doubly bummed that it seems they’re only putting the men on court at night Paris time. I can tape Keys-Gauff, but still! It’s the principle!
I also need to kvetch about the dudebro energy of TNT’s desk crew. For all the publicity about the “dream team” of commentators, which includes Venus, Andre, Boris Becker, Woz, and the other usuals, I’ve mostly seen former players Sam Querrey and Coco Vandeweghe alongside Adam Lefkoe. Both he and Querrey blithely got players’ names wrong — “Sonia” Kenin, “Jacob” Sinner, the latter particularly egregious given that Jannik is the world No. 1 right now — and Lefkoe keeps trying to be bombastic like a U.S. sports radio jock, trying to turn Paris into a New York crowd by yelling at them to chant things (they don’t care) and asking people how their signatures are, and talking about haircuts. When they brought out Pat McEnroe to talk about one of the matches, Coco VDW disagreed with something he said and he got SUPER defensive and touchy and dismissive with her about her opinion (“I didn’t see that at ALL, NO ONE agrees with that”), which in turn made HER defensive (“Well LITERALLY EVERYONE I was with agreed with this observation”) and it was just super uncomfortable. Johnny Mac is bad enough about the women’s game — and everything else; if anyone but Djoker wins I don’t think he’ll sleep at night. Anyway, it made me miss the soothing energy of Chris McKendry.
Anyway, we begin the gallery by enjoying that Rafael Nadal’s young son is clearly a Fug National in training. Look at those stripes! Welcome to the fold, Rafa Jr.
