I am deeply, deeply ashamed of myself. Last time, I COMPLETELY missed the joke that Tyra’s red fan-pleated outfit looks like the velociraptor popping up in Wayne Knight’s car in Jurassic Park. I just… it was right there, and yet I was not. It’s like putting up the bumpers in bowling and somehow putting up a zero anyway.
Dancing is going heavily thematic now every week, and I can’t tell if that’s to goose ratings, or because it’s the 30th season and they think it’s special, or what. But it’s a lot. And it means Tyra will NOT be toning it down AT ALL. People in general really really cannot stand her on this show — and I totally get it, and agree with some of it; she is, as we’ve discussed many times, A Whole Hell of a Lot — so I have a suspicion they will jettison her after this season and try someone who will not bring quite so much muchness. (It’s so much! It’s madness! It’s MUCH MADNESS.) But I admit I will miss that fleeting moment when she comes out and the sheer scope of her muchness is revealed anew each week.
