Tracee hosted the AMAs again this year (here’s what she wore last time, for fun comparative purposes), and announced on-stage that she’d be supporting black designers all night long. This makes her the third celebrity in recent memory to use a platform with a lot of eyeballs to serve her culture — the others being Issa Rae when she hosted the CFDAs, and Gemma Chan, who spent much of the Crazy Rich Asians press tour Instagramming details about the background and heritage of the Asian designers she chose. Interestingly, Tracee here is wearing the same designer — Pyer Moss — that Issa wore on the main CFDA red carpet, which is a pretty big win for a brand that’s not a household name yet, so well done, y’all, and I hope you crack some bubbly.
