The All-Star Game format was: the forthcoming Team USA athletes vs. the WNBA stars who didn’t make that team, and that’s sort of BRILLIANT and also SAVAGE?!? Team WNBA beat the future Olympians 117-109, on the strength of Arike Ogunbowale’s record 34 points — all in the second half, including 8-of-13 from the three-point line. Whatever Coach Cheryl Miller said in that pep talk should be enshrined somewhere. Angel Reese became the first rookie to log a double-double in the game, and Caitlin Clark, the first to have double-digit assists. The whole thing is exciting and I’m glad the W is having such a compelling season, with the rookies delivering on all that promise from the last NCAA season — doubly impressive when you consider they didn’t get much of a break between seasons AND the number of games in the WNBA is higher. That Olympics break will be a welcome one.
