Jack Innanen is on Dan Levy’s latest show, Big Mistakes, which is itself a big mistake (I hated it, except for Laurie Metcalf). He’s also the dude whose team aggressively linked him to Heated Rivalry, and then loudly announced via EW that he turned down an offer because he was too busy. Is it true? Maybe! But if it is, then it’s a risky strategy; that show kept its casting process locked up tight, so yapping about it could make him — whether he did any of it or not — look like a blabbermouth at best, and a thirsty fibber at worst. Good luck to him either way, as he’s not a bad actor and I do not with him ill, but I had admittedly been avoiding him a little. But! The Summer Doldrums exist for the thirsty fibber! This is their MOMENT! This is how they slake their parched throats! And he’s carrying bags! Including one GIANT one! It’s whimsical as hell! This might be the way to my heart?

Related: He’s now preparing to promote season two of Adults, a poorly received F/X show that apparently the viewer data suggests people switched off in droves just within the first scene of the season one premiere. Apparently the F/X honcho decided to renew it anyway and gave them a chance to do a prequel episode that will run before the series premiere on Hulu, to sort of… warm people up to their humor, or something? I appreciate that he believes in the writers, and that it’s original material, and lord knows I think people are too hot on the cancellation trigger. I’m probably not the target audience here, being an actual middle-aged adult, but the trailers make it look full of the kind of stunted, obnoxious twentysomethings who are likely to grate my last nerve against those little pointy spiky holes on the box, so I’m not sure it’ll get the chance to woo me even if it wanted to, but I am at least intrigued by that very unorthodox approach to fixing a problem.
