There is a lot of what I would call Mommy Terror coming up. Connie Britton and Sam Nivola have a show premiering on Hulu soon called Phony, on which he gets into a car accident and wakes up to find that his single mother looks slightly different and doesn’t know any of their special codes — but no one else notices. And Jessica Chastain is in Other Mommy, a horror flick in which a girl’s home is haunted by an entity that takes the form of her mother and says things like, “CAN I GO INSIDE YOUR HEART?” Variety tore this to shreds.
Anyway! La Chastain is blond now (it happened last month, around the end of the U.S. Open). She said she’d never dyed it before this, but after wearing a wig for a role in an upcoming Apple TV show, she decided she liked it and wanted to do it for real. Good for her. Have fun! Try stuff, if you want to! It’s very Old Hollywood Femme Fatale on her. In fact, overall this rather works. Yeah, the dress looks a bit like she decided to hem it herself by tying a knot in it, the way we’d do with big t-shirts back in the day (whichever day yours was; I think we all did it). But she’s glowy and gorgeous and she’s got sexy gold shoes on, and the whole bit feels like she just got back from a super refreshing vacation and is hanging onto summer for as long as it’s searing hot in L.A. So, except for a couple days coming up, probably until Thanksgiving.
