One more draft is in the books, this time from Pittsburgh, PA. I’m very proud of Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love, who was electric to watch in the last two years and went third to Arizona. (I fear the Cards are a clown show, though, and that this was not a great pick for them because they have so many other needs and who is gonna protect this investment???) And then, about ten minutes after I said I could see Seattle picking our other RB, Jadarian Price, Seattle picked… Jadarian Price. I am the running back whisperer!!!! In this one very specific case!!! Sigh. I’m gonna miss those boys.
The No. 1 pick, Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, declined to attend the draft — his mother has multiple sclerosis and is in a wheelchair, and in deference to her health he decided to throw a watch party in his family home in Florida. She comes to his games, but I imagine the travel wore on her this year especially. Mendoza seems like a true-blue sweet kid, and I’m very concerned that being a Las Vegas Raider means he’ll just get pounded into the ground. But, who knows! Fernando is tougher than he looks. He might have liked Primanti Bros., though. Those sandwiches slap.
We had a few curveballs throughout, and a LOT of custom suits on the red carpet, and some healthy booing of the Baltimore Ravens. I’d expect nothing less.
