When this look came down the runway, I loved it and called it for Lupita. (That Valentino collection is so dang good as a whole, in fact. If I were a rich eccentric, I’d buy it all.) I must be wholly upfront and admit that I think I would have liked this better on Lupita, because I’m not sure that I think Amber Heard has the same charismatic oomph and this is a look that takes a LOT of oomph. Having said that: I LOVE that she went for it. Wearing a high-fashion swim cap at the premiere of Aquaman is whimsical as hell and a lot of people would not have had the stones to go there. May awards season usher in a new era of women finding their sartorial stones.
