As we near Sunday night’s SAG telecast — which sadly isn’t live; hopefully the winners don’t leak — I decided to wrap up the week by looking at the red-carpet history of several of the nominees, beginning with the great Viola Davis. She’s picked up ten nominations since 2008: six individual, and four ensemble (which includes one of each this year for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom). We started the week celebrating the patterns she’s been wearing lately, but in this slideshow she’s very much monochrome. Effectively so, often, but it’s still a very different vibe than what we’re seeing from her in 2021. I don’t know if we’ll see much of anything fashion wise on Sunday, especially if she doesn’t win — will they even show the nominees, in the interests of expedience? — but my God, it’s the first Friday of April and there is no vaccine in my near future, so I’m going to enjoy these moments of hoping.
