God bless the rains down in Jeremy Strong’s wardrobe! He (a) very well deserved this win, and (b) looked like he recently escaped from a particularly glum community college production of Les Miserables where he just came very close to falling off the table during “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables.” And I, for one, am grateful for this! Let’s take a closer look at him, and everyone else who showed up last night.
Speaking of, how much of a power move is it to skip an Emmy Awards that you don’t even have to travel to?! Of the dramatic categories, Meryl Streep, Steve Carell, Jodie Comer, Olivia Colman,Thandie Newton, Matthew Macfayden, and Laura Dern all bailed. Now, some of those people are in the UK and I don’t blame them for not wanting to get up at like 3 am, especially because several of them are also allegedly filming right now. HOWEVER, Meryl Streep and Steve Carell are neither (per their IMDbs) filming at the moment, NOR are they (as far as we know!) in the UK, as they’re both Americans and WE’RE STUCK HERE. I just imagine Meryl seeing an email with the subject line “ZOOM TECHNICAL PROTOCOL 2020 EMMYS” and deleting it without even reading it. A queen.
Also: I dare you to look at Zendaya winning and not smile; the screengrabs of her are SO joyous. I personally screamed with joy as if she were my own child, which I did not expect to do. I’m so happy for her! I wish she’d gotten to experience this big moment in front of the crowd — but she’ll win another one.
