If this dress rings a bell for you, it was JUST in the conversation earlier this year, because Louis Vuitton made a custom gown for Danielle Deadwyler that appeared to draw considerable inspiration from the original Dior Couture version of this gown. Dior’s release simply cites this as from the fall/winter 1949 Haute Couture Collection, but it’s almost certainly a recreation, because the original has been doing the museum circuit for a while now. There are also subtle differences which you’ll see in the slideshow because I tossed in a photograph I took of it in the Met back in 2016. It’s glorious; perfect for Cannes.
