We haven’t seen Lady Gaga around much lately; I assume she went full method to play Harley Quinn, as she did with House of Gucci, and had to spend a few months decompressing and remembering what her actual voice sounds like. She and Bradley Cooper always had a slight melancholy to their appearances for A Star Is Born, and there’s a hint of that from her here, too. Maybe she snapped right back into the Tragic Ending headspace; maybe for her, the Method never truly ends.
