When My Best Friend’s Wedding came out, Julia Roberts had been in a real resume rough patch, and I remember her doing press for it and noting dryly that it marked her return to the hair everyone liked on her the best: big, curly, and red, just like in Pretty Woman and Mystic Pizza. The hair that made her famous. That is both true, for me, and also probably informative as to why Julia here has a short, straight, brownish bob. She often seemed to push against that particular aesthetic, and I always wondered if she viewed it as a pigeonhole, or as too big a concession to the loud demands of fame and fans. I think she strained against her superstardom at times, basically, but it sure came for her anyway. In summary: Sorry, Julia, but I DO love that red curly hair, and also… what is that boxy thing you’re wearing?
