We were so innocent back in 2012, when we thought Ashanti’s Falguni & Shane Peacock dress was a shocking turn of events. We’ve seen so much in the intervening decade. Although… I was half afraid that I’d revisit this and think, “Ah, Worn Out and Jaded 2022 Heather just wants to compliment the body tape and thank her for not picking plain white pumps,” and yet no, I cannot. Because you know what? This is still pretty surprising. It is flirting with pubic disaster, and what’s more, she wore it at a Fashion show, where her entire purpose was to sit down in front of a room full of people. There is no way the labia stripe was up to that task. Maybe for some people at Fashion Week, if you’ve seen one erogenous zone, you’ve seen them all. But you know how we’ve identified some dresses in these flashbacks that feel timeless and as if the person would wear them again now? This is the other side of that spectrum. She could still wear this now, and our eyes would bug out just as much as they did then. There’s something weirdly comforting in that.
