I do not know what the official inspiration was for Dottie West’s 1982 costume here, but I assume she called up Bob Mackie and said, “Put Cher and Elton in a blender and season it with Evel Knievel.” Nothing would please me more this Sunday at the ACMs than someone deciding to pay homage to this outfit by getting shot out of a cannon and landing on-stage to present an award. Bonus points if they do it while accepting one. There’s something satisfyingly tense about knowing Chris Stapleton is climbing into a cannon across town, waiting to find out if his name is in the envelope, and then potentially climbing right back out again.
