Giambattista Valli told Vogue that he did just fine during the pandemic, and so was determined to deliver more of what his buyers want, as opposed to adapting to any kind of new or different reality. And it’s true that I would be very worried if he’d turned around and delivered something you’d see in “We’d Like To Thank You Herbert Hoover.” Consistency IS comforting. But then the clothes were photographed in ways where I can’t always tell… how old or tall the model is, in a way that’s occasionally confusing or unsettling? I guess that’s also apt for the time: Our days are consistent, and also often unsettling.
