Here is the thing: I love Constance Wu, but Gemma Chan’s character, Astrid, was my favorite one in the Crazy Rich Asians universe. Which is why this whole event is such a BLESSING. They both looked fantastic, and all I ever really want is for pretty people I like to look good. (That’s a lie: I also enjoy it when pretty people I like look wacky, and terrible people I hate look hideous.) And this is extremely good. I like it so much that I accidentally typed that it’s “amazomg” in the headline of this post and I was right. It is amazOMG. My typo is not wrong!

When we covered this Oscar de la Renta line, I begged — in all caps! — for someone to wear this specific dress to the Oscars. I’m SO GLAD it eventually got its moment on the red carpet. I actually think it looks better on Gemma than it did on the runway model, and it feels so perfectly opulent for a movie as fizzy and glamorous as this one.
