HELLO. I’ve been grouchy all week, so if you’re in the same boat: GREETINGS. (I wrote a whole piece about kooky things that are making me happy that I bought, or could buy, and it helped briefly to fall into a wormhole of lamps that look like Jell-O salad.) We also had a robust chat about what everyone is reading.

Over at Drinks With Broads:

– We had a great and wide-ranging interview with our friend Amy Odell, about her new biography of Gwyneth Paltrow. (Which we are also giving away here!)

– We ran down some of Hollywood’s newest dating news, plus I dove into one of my kooky old cookbooks, plus we discuss the alleged sequel to My Best Friend’s Wedding.

– It was A BIG WEEK at And Just Like That….our recap!

– And we had a DRAMATIC DEATH at The Gilded Age. Our recap!

Elsewhere!

– Speaking of And Just Like That…IT IS OVER. (I mean, there are still a few episodes left, but they announced this current season is its last one. The series finale is a two-parter airing on August 14.)

– This is a good read about the upcoming Devil Wears Prada sequel.

– Speaking of movies, I am delighted to hear the new Naked Gun might be very good.

– Love this interview: The Timeless Appeal of the ’90s Fashion in ‘Clueless’

– I linked one of these in our shopping post earlier this week, but J.Crew has a bunch of new suede handbags and they are CUTE. I love this shoulder bag AND this tote.

– This is an AMAZING piece at the Squawk, looking back at that famous Jennifer Aniston Vanity Fair article about her break-up with Brad. Lainey is right that we will never see its like again.

Should we buy the Kettle Falls Hotel?

– Or open a cute little general store? (It seems very challenging.)

– Do you live in one of the 31 Most Beautiful Towns in America?  I’m currently reading a mystery set in one of them, does that count?

– Really cool: Ralph Lauren’s Vintage Man of Mystery

–This is wild: “Here’s a sentence I never imagined I would need to write: Readers, please do not bring your own food to restaurants.” This piece also includes the phrases “purse tuna” and “egg salad influencer.”

— Funny, AND educational, at the Ringer (as usual): NFL Training Camp Panic Meter

– FYI if you need new kitchenware: There is a lot of Staub on sale at Saks right now. (Saks has been having a big big big sale for a while.)  I love these pink ceramic casseroles dishes but I do not need any more baking dishes. (Even though I have a terrible habit of cracking them.)

– Take notes!!!! Sea No Evil: How to Behave on Someone Else’s Yacht. You never know!

– I’m VERY supportive of this couple.

– I’m really into a linen swing dress like this for the heat of summer. I have a white one that I get WAY more wear out of than you might guess, but these are probably more sensible colorways.

– What a perfect headline: Manny Jacinto Is Not Your Handsome Dope

– This is a great edition of A Tiny Apt: On Knowing What YOU Like

– Variety is reporting that HBO Max subscribers are getting two free months of a handpicked selection of BritBox programming. It’s mostly their murder stuff — sadly, Outrageous, the Mitford limited series isn’t included, which is a bummer — but I know a lot of you will enjoy Agatha Christies and Luther. (I mean, who doesn’t enjoy Idris?)

– Lately I’ve been using my medium-size Boat and Tote as my purse. I love it, but it has NO pockets; I am pondering one of these purse organizers. (This is a big change from my beloved Vee Collective bag, which is ALL pockets.)

– What do you think about the casting for the new Pride & Prejudice? I think Olivia Colman is PERFECT as Mrs Bennet. (I’m also relieved that this piece answers MY most pressing casting question, namely, “but who is playing Lady Catherine De Bourgh?”)

– Speaking of casting, I kinda laughed at this: Taron Egerton takes himself out of Bond running because he’s ‘too messy’. Was he IN the Bond running?

– Give me one of each: 19 Frozen Cocktails to Blend Up This Summer

– Reminder that the Nordstrom sale ends August 4, if there was anything you were percolating. (These were our picks.)

PSA: As you know, our affiliate partner is ShopMy, and they just did a big revamp of their site so it’s easier for people to use. Our refreshed shop is right here. You can see EVERYTHING we’ve ever linked to (including broken out by category; this is under “Latest Finds”), plus the most popular items — and you can also search, so, say, if you remember we linked to a shirt or a pair of shoes you liked, those should be easier to find. You can also follow various creators if you’re always interested in what they link to, and “heart” items to save them for later if you see something you’re interested in but don’t want to buy immediately (or might want to remember to give as a gift). It’s also interesting that if you click into a product page — say these pants — and scroll down, the site will recommend similar looks and similar brands. Some of this is still a little wonky because they JUST launched their redesign, but it’s intriguing. (I LOVE shopping data.)
