There’s been a notable uptick over the past year or so in Diet Coke content; the youths embracing their “Fridge Cigs,” for example. And I say: Welcome to the club, young friends. You’re new to this but I’m true to this. Some of us having been swilling the sweet sweet nectar of Diet Coke since the ’80s. Please understand me: I’m thrilled to have other people understand the appeal of cracking open a cold DC on a hot afternoon. (My tip is to have one in the shower in the summer. Not your morning shower — I am not a morning Diet Coke drinker — but like that post-beach afternoon summer shower.) I’m also thrilled to note that this has coincided with a very amusing uptick in Diet Coke-branded items, an arena which used to be a bit of a wasteland. I do have a Diet Coke tee shirt from the Coca-Cola museum but it was the only thing they had back in the day! No more. We addicts now have many items with which to advertise our addiction. We’ve got night lights! We’ve got giant velvet bolster pillows that look like cans! We’ve got this legitimately cute baseball cap! I sincerely might need a “Diet Coke” ring. You KNOW you know someone who wants embroidered cocktail napkins with Diet Coke cans on them. (You’ve got more than one option here, even.) Wrap it all in this Diet Coke wrapping paper!
Or perhaps you’ll be tempted by one of these delightfully silly items:
