Happy Friday! I hope you have a pleasant weekend waiting for you.
At Drinks With Broads this week, everyone shared their favorite celebrity grudges! (That you hold, not those held by celebrities.) We also bemoaned this whole Blue Origins fiasco, and Heather reviews Dying for Sex. In yesterday’s issue, I dove deep into a pretty amazing auction of TV memorabilia and Heather dove deep into her own. (You will want to read her youthful My Little Pony fanfic.) The comments on both of these editions are well worth your time, they’re really fun and interesting. I promise!
Reminder: The Met Gala is May 5 and we will be having a live chat for DWB paid subscribers, if that sounds appealing. also coming up in May: The return of And Just Like That, and Heather’s recaps. If you’ve been considering kicking in $5 a month to join the fun, May is a great time to do it! Paid subscribers make it possible for us to keep doing what we do — we appreciate you so much!
Here at GFY, we had an Earth Day chat, and also discussed the best crossbody bags for travel. It was also NFL Draft Day and you know we dug into that!
This thread on the Name Nerds subreddit really amused: What are the most over the top grandma names you’ve heard? Some of them are SO funny and cute.
Gossip Reading Club asks: What Happened to Vanity Fair’s Ingenues of 2003? I did not know that about Alison Lohman. Yikes.
Demi Moore got the cover of People’s Beautiful issue — which feels right this year. (Or probably any other year.) [Lainey]
Also at Lainey, an interesting piece about the classic Ponytail Facelift AND a fun fact about Ralph Lauren seating two former Heath Ledger partners next to each other, front row.
Fascinating, at Second Story: 666 Park Avenue: NYC’s most palatial, mysterious maisonette. The inside of this is INSANE.
I love both the dress and the cake at this Fancy Rich Person Wedding. (Tatler uses so many commas in this piece, parenthetically.) [Tatler]
As I’ve mentioned recently, I am going to Italy in a few weeks for a belated honeymoon/my 50th birthday, and am currently thinking about what tiny travel-sized items I need to bring with me. I know this is ridiculous and I should just get some Cadence pots and decant but, listen, I love tiny travel-sized items!!!! I’ve had a bad year! Just let me have this!! Ahem. Anyway, as you guys know, I really like ROZ hair stuff and they have a whole set of tiny items. (I like the shampoo and conditioner a lot but I REALLY like that hair serum.) I might also pick up the Supergoop travel set because it’s easier to put the small bottles in my purse to reapply during the day. (I LOVE their Unseen Sunscreen. It’s one of my favorite sunscreens of all time. Tied with Vacation’s Chardonnay Oil, which is DELIGHTFUL. Vacation’s branding just…pleases me greatly. Their packing slips come on dot-matrix printer paper.)(Having said all this…do I want to just buy Italian sunscreen?) Tell me about your fave sources for travel-sized stuff.
Logistics-y, at Eater: So, You Want to Write a Cookbook?
Such an interesting read: Brittany Hampton On Styling Gen Z Women’s Basketball Stars [Essence]
Heads up that Anthro is having a 30% off sale at the moment — you might need to get something for Mother’s Day? (Or yourself, I don’t judge.)
Also interesting, at Pajiba: Notes on ‘The Studio’ From An Actual Hollywood Assistant. To wit: “Every day working at a studio is a series of crises, and 90% of them are about things that objectively do not matter. There was a phase where whenever I ordered my boss food from the executive dining room I had to request that her dishes be prepared with avocado oil and avocado oil only.”
In other products news, Hanni gifted me this “moisture stick” — you’ve probably seen it on Instagram? — and it turns out I love it?? I have this weird (to me) issue where I am very dry but I hate putting on lotion because then my hands are all greasy, which I find annoying. PROBLEM SOLVED. (Also I think this counts as a solid for TSA AND you can’t spill it, so it’s good for travel.) I appreciate that their website calls them “lazy bodycare for real people.” Thank you, I AM lazy. I’m considering buying this salve you put on your body while you’re in the shower.
Huh, this IS dramatic: Unpacking Justin Bieber’s Dramatic Drew House Exit. I think the Biebs should just take to the seaside for a while. (I think he sort of has been but maybe he needs to continue to do so.) [The Cut]
Speaking of drama: At the NY Times: They Stole a Quarter-Billion in Crypto and Got Caught Within a Month. !!!! [gifted link]
Messy Nessy Chic reports on The Secret Code of Beauty Spots.
PSA: As a reminder, we’ve got a Shop My storefront now! All the products we include in our shopping posts live there too — so if you vaguely remember that you saw a tote bag (or whatever) on the site but can’t remember what or when that was, you can check there and hopefully find what you seek more easily going forward. Thank you for supporting us!
