A chunk of the country is still digging itself out from a blizzard, L.A. had torrential rain on New Year’s Eve, and San Francisco is battening down the hatches for the deluge of the century. It’s snuggle weather. And to me, Danielle Brooks in this outfit is the embodiment of comfy, cozy, merry, and bright. She is the human version of curling up on the couch by a fire, a steaming hot mug of spiked cider in one hand and a book in the other, basking in the waning days of holiday decorations before the lights go out on Christmas, a Hallmark movie streaming on the TV that I look up at every 15 minutes and occasionally rewind if it looks like I missed an important realization about living in the country. What did I leave out? Probably some chips in a bowl on the table, and by bowl I mean “bag,” the original bag, which has been popped freshly for the occasion and won’t last the night. Oh, maybe some fluffy socks. And a smidgen more daylight than there was yesterday… anyway. It’s the fun parts of a cold winter night, with a tinge of optimism for spring. In sum, she is a mood, and a good one.
