Am I going to have notes about this movie? Probably. Do I think we really needed it? No. Did I find this trailer actually rather delightful? I did. Will I see this in the theatre? Absolutely, unless we’re in terrible place in the pandemic in late May, which would be a major bummer! Am I thrilled that the previous movie made me sob in a scene where the Dowager Countess was like, “my dear Lady Mary, I’m definitely going to die soon! Not on camera, in this movie, but in general!” but currently is like, “still hanging in there!” YES. Would I watch a movie where it turns out Violet was turned by a roving band of vampires between that movie and this one — invited into her home by a distracted Spratt, obviously — and is now gonna live forever and all the forthcoming Downton movies will just be her announcing interesting things to people to kick off the action and maybe killing irritating members of the staff? Obviously. IS THIS THAT MOVIE?

Well, not judging from the trailer, but I guess you never know! The official log-line reads, “[f]rom award-winning creator Julian Fellowes comes the motion picture event DOWNTON ABBEY: A NEW ERA.The much-anticipated cinematic return of the global phenomenon reunites the beloved cast as they go on a grand journey to the South of France to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa.” Is the mystery VAMPIRES? Just think about it, Julian! (PS: It’ll be v. exciting for EvilButler.com if he ends up with Dominic West. Ding dong!)
