Ava is at the Venice Film Festival with her movie Origin, starring Aunjanue Ellis as the writer Isabel Wilkerson, and she’s the first Black female director from the U.S. to have a film in competition there. And since it’s not a film fest overseas if people don’t time the standing ovations, hers was a roaring nine minutes. It’s a proud moment for sure, and look how gloriously she wears the honor. The standing O hadn’t even happened when this was taken, but she is clearly in her freaking element. She looks glorious. I feel like I would walk past that dress on a hanging rack, but she’s making it look divine.

Her photocall look is pretty good:

I liked it BETTER when I saw it from a distance and thought it was a general pattern, rather than the Louis Vuitton logo, but it’s still really polished — the perfect level of smart-casual for the occasion. I hope she and Aunjanue Ellis get to work the awards trail together. Imagine the outfits!
