Queer is the latest film by Luca Guadagnino — and, sidebar, when I saw his name, I thought to myself, “OMG, he JUST released a whole other disturbing weirdo movie, we need a BREAK,” until I realized I was confabulating him with Yorgos Lanthimos. YORGOS makes disturbing weirdo movies; Luca, not so much. This one is based on a William S. Burroughs novel about an older expat’s infatuation with a younger man in the 1940s, and the older man is Daniel Craig. Between this and Benoit Blanc, I LOVE that he leapt out of Bond and into the skin of people who are completely different. The man was not going to be pigeonholed, and I respect that.
