Nicky Zimmermann is based in Australia, where for the most part I believe life is proceeding as close to normally as possible in a world that still needs to lock down occasionally for Covid flare-ups (as Melbourne did for five days during the Australian Open). And so while she shows at New York Fashion Week, her home country is closer to celebration mode than the rest of us, and I can see why she’d want to use that as inspiration. These dresses feel like the thing you’d splash out on for your first big event, which our friend Carrie has decided will be a “Happy Birthday, Everyone,” party, where we’re feting all the birthdays we missed during lockdown. I am ready, as soon as I brush up on my social skills, which let’s face it were already pretty weak.
