One thing Law Roach understands is the importance of context. When I scrolled past this look on Instagram over the weekend, I immediately thought, “wow, VERY Cher.” And then I read another sentence and saw that Zendaya did, in fact, wear this vintage Bob Mackie number to introduce Cher at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. She looks fantastic in it, as a human in a garment — but also this is a VERY specific garment for a very specific moment and this literally is that exact moment. Law Roach used to own a vintage shop and you can tell he knows what he’s doing here.
Bob Mackie himself noted on Instagram that this entire look is “archival Bob Mackie Couture, from the Fall 2001 ‘Foreign Intrigue’ collection,” and I love that this ensemble is dubbed FOREIGN INTRIGUE. So glam! (It was shown on the runway with a golden, bedazzled hood, but obviously you have to 86 that to do the Cher hair.) This reminds me SO much of this iconic moment:
