Dear Younger Readers: If you have ever wondered what it was like to be thirteen-years old in 1989, please direct your attention to the above photo of Yara Shahidi. You would have wanted that entire look, from the top of her head to the pointy white shoes on her feed, with much of your body and soul. (Although I must inform that your hair bow would have been much larger, and attached to a clip so you could just slap it onto your head with ease.) I cannot explain it any better than that. (Having said that, a mere few years later, you would have transitioned fully to a completely flannel and denim lifestyle. On a personal level, if we have to go back to one era of my extreme youth, I think I’m reverting to grunge.)

Yara is, by the way, out and about because she has her own Barbie now. It’s VERY CUTE, and I actually think it’s wearing those same shoes (sadly, it’s not for purchase).

What was I just saying about denim?

The list of women who could successfully sport those pants is very very VERY VERY short. Luckily, she’s on it.
