It’s been awhile since we had a book-related Afternoon Chat, after all, and I know everyone wants recommendations as we head into prime poolside reading season. I just started Hello, Sunshine, by Laura Dave (who wrote Eight Hundred Grapes), and I’m really looking forward to getting some quality time with it this weekend.
Other recent reads on my bookshelf include:
– Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney’s The Nest, which I really liked, and which you will probably also like if you’re into zesty reads about effed up families in New York (who isn’t)?
– Amor Towles’s A Gentleman in Moscow, which I thought was simply delightful, and which I due to recommendations from all of you. Thanks, everyone!
– Nina Rigg’s memoir The Bright Hour, which is tremendously good — sad, and beautiful, and very very moving. Despite the fact that it’s about a woman dying of cancer — and Riggs has, sadly, died since writing it — it’s not particularly depressing, to my mind. It’s sad, yes, but it’s also really wonderful and funnier than you might anticipate.
– Dave Holmes’s very funny memoir Party of One, which we recently gave away here on GFY. It’s a total pleasure. (I usually don’t read this many memoirs.)
