The coolest thing Thom Browne did was put the audience on the stage at his couture venue, and then raise a curtain to reveal an audience full of black-and-white cardboard cutouts. the rest… if it wasn’t stuff we’ve seen before, it certainly felt like it. I suppose the point was to introduce the brand to the world of couture, and in that sense, the pleats and the wild windblown wigs and hats with eyeholes succeeded. But I keep wondering if anyone, at this point, really NEEDS an introduction to Thom Browne. While I’m sure the amped-up couture version satisfied whatever the technical requirements are, it starts to feel like he’s SO prolific that he’s stepping on his own feet.
