It’s been debuting all over the world, and now it’s opening here: The live-action Aladdin you never wished Guy Ritchie would make. I haven’t read any reviews, but… I loved the cartoon, and my kids adored the stage show, and yet I’m not sure I trust this as any kind of reasonable fusion of the two. I don’t know why. Is it that Will Smith’s charms have worn off, y’all? Is it that Robin Williams is no longer with us and so somehow his performance as the Genie feels weirdly sacred? Is it just that this looks generally overwhelming and that I’m sick of live-action remakes? HELP.
