The last time we covered an Alaia show, we wondered whether Rihanna — a noted fan — saw anything she liked. Apparently the answer was no, because she had them make this for her instead of ordering up anything from the runway. It’s a perfectly fine shirt-dress, and smart to go minimal after she wore a vintage muppet the other day; I think it’s really effective, although I don’t love the shoes, which is ironic given the event.
These two were in London for A$AP Rocky to accept a British Fashion Award, and now in New York because he won a Footwear News accolade. Amusingly, he wore boring fashion for his fashion honor, and boring shoes for his shoe honor. Maybe he felt like his work there was done. Rihanna, as usual, is pulling all the focus, because she’s Rihanna and she does it without even really trying that hard — although there is something divinely soapy about everything she’s doing in this photo. From the fountain of hair to the coat to the pose, to the facial expression, she’s dressed like the future ex-wife who will poison your dinner roll if she sees you get too close.
