Kim Jones amassed a decent celebrity front row — outside of Dior, no one did better, I don’t think? — to check out his latest couture collection in Paris. They got an eyeful of what he called “lingerie-inspired lightness,” or thereabouts. The idea being that a simple handful of silhouettes could be differentiated by the hand-sewn embellishments for which couture is known. It’s possible that in person this really translated, but to me, an average Joe who wasn’t present, it does feel a BIT like there’s a specialness missing. Don’t get me wrong, there are a few stunners, and a couple that exhilarate me because they make me recoil. But often, the basic idea and the loveliness of the extras are jointly undercut by, well, the cut. See if you agree.
