So much time passes between Outlander seasons that I almost forget it’s still happening — other shows ought to pay attention to this syndrome, frankly — but that problem will soon be in the rearview, because this is the very last installment. Much like with Game of Thrones, the Outlander book series is not actually finished; unlike George R. R. Martin, Diana Gabaldon says she’s setting aside this year to lock it down, and I guess we’ll find out if she actually does. So the series had to exit on its own terms, presumably in consultation with her but I would think in a way that doesn’t render the book unnecessary?!? So thorny.

I don’t think this show was terribly easy or uncomplicated for Caitriona and Sam in the end, given how unfair and intense some corners of fandom became about insisting they were secretly a couple, and then getting angry at them for not being honest about something that was never true in the first place. But they NEVER phoned it in; this crazy thing wouldn’t have worked if they were any less than great, and they really, really were. Fare thee well, Jamie and Claire. Your legacy will be one of extreme talent, and also hotness.
