This photo is dated October 31st, 1930, but the actual Academy Awards happened on November 5th of that year; was this a promotional shot, or did someone at Getty key in the info wrong? There’s no way to know! What I do know is that (a) she looks CHIC, winning here for The Divorcee, and (b) per this Oscars’ Wiki, her brother Douglas also won an Oscar at this ceremony, for Best Sound Recording, making them the first sibling winners in history! At only the third Academy Awards! He was a very dashing looking man himself and went on to have a VERY illustrious sound career, in a time when people were just figuring it out.
That’s not him in the snap with her, by the way — that is her co-star Conrad Nagel, with whom I was not particularly familiar, despite being fairly well-versed in old movie stars and his large body of work. Shearer’s Wiki is VERY interesting, but does not mention her fur cuffs, nor her excellent bracelets.
