Yesterday, in lieu of pictures from the (postponed) Critics Choice Awards, we looked at photos from our earliest available supply of archival ones — so, 2003-2005. This is the next stop on the nostalgia train. It seems 2006 was the year they figured out that if they added more nominees everywhere, bumping up to six in most if not all of the categories, they might get more stars at the event itself. This SORT OF worked? Michelle Williams was not there to pick up her Supporting Actress trophy for Brokeback Mountain, but she tied with Amy Adams (Junebug) and she DID attend. All I really have to say about 2007 is that Little Miss Sunshine won for best writing, best ensemble, and for both Paul Dano’s and Abigail Breslin’s work, but did not win Best Picture (presumably because it was not directed by Martin Scorsese, as The Departed was; that movie won LITERALLY NOTHING ELSE here other than director and Best Picture). And 2008 was the year of Juno and There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men, a.k.a. Javier Bardem’s Bob Haircut.
