LET’S DO THIS.

I would have gotten this post up earlier, but Heather and I had a super early call for some pre-Oscars media we were doing and I had to get up at 2:30am today. So will this post be inarticulate? WE’LL FIND OUT. As ever, I look forward to your thoughts. My main feelings are: all things being equal, Medvedeva probably should have won the whole thing, and I say that as someone who thought she was over-scored slightly in the short; I think the Powers That Be need to fiddle with the rules a bit so that a skater who puts ALL of her jumps in the bonus time loses some points from her component score because of all the time she spends just SKATING AROUND; I never thought I’d get tired of the trick of doing a jump with your arm over your head, but here we are. The Russian woman are obviously WONDERFUL skaters, but their (successfully) gaming the scoring system has, I think, taken a little bit away from their programs?

Also: Anna Karenina is a weird thing to skate to, but if you’re gonna do it, at least Medvedeva really committed and included the train sounds, a nerdy lit joke I made when the program started that came out to be true; the US ladies have (sigh) looked better than they currently do (MIRAI I LOVE YOU STILL YOU ARE A TEAM HERO TRIPLE AXEL YAY I’M GOING OVER TO YOUR PARENTS’ RESTAURANT TO HIGH FIVE YOU ALL); and I suspect NBC’s gonna tell Johnny Weir, that shining sparkling treasure, to dial down his Russophilia down like…12%.

TO THE OUTFITS! As ever, I look forward to your thoughts. I’m not including the US ladies because they did not debut new ones and you can see them here in the post we did about Nationals.
