I enjoyed the book Where’d You Go Bernadette, and I liked parts of The Goldfinch, and think the previews for both make the movie adaptations look so strained (the former) and cold (the latter). Curious to see which way this one goes. Reviews seem mixed, but one in the Hollywood Reporter says what I had suspected, which is that it was too Herculean a task to adapt that novel into a standard movie length project and keep any of its richness — and that Boris may have been the sacrificial lamb in that. An HBO miniseries might have been better, I think, but then again these days that tends to mean someone gets greedy to invent a sequel, and… no.
