It sounds like all the speeches at this were pretty rousing. I recommend watching them, particularly that of Emma Gonzalez. She’s in the spotlight not only because she survived the horrific Parkland shooting, but because — at only 18 years old — she’s been unafraid to become a megaphone for gun control, and take on all the vitriol such a stance typically attracts. But Natalie Portman closed hers by wondering if all the entertainment forces in the room might consider the effect of, for a year, not producing work in which a woman is murdered, raped, or otherwise the recipient of abuse. That got everyone to their feet. I am too cynical to think anyone would try it, but you never do know.
