June is in Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut, Eleanor the Great, about a 90-year old woman who a) befriends a 19-year old girl who is fascinated by her story, and b) is a liar whose story is not her own, but actually that of her late friend Bessie, who survived Hitler. Rolling Stone called “a biddy comedy,” and The Daily Beast, an “utterly bizarre Holocaust memorial drama.” What a cocktail. The only thing everyone seems to agree on is that June Squibb rules, which I will shout from the rooftops with them (justice for Thelma!). Anyway, June here — who is 95! — looks amazing in a gorgeous coat. Scarlett Johansson also looks super, but she should listen to June on the value of a good shoe and properly hemmed pants. One cannot replace the wisdom of one’s elders.
