This movie is a slasher film, and a (kinda?) sequel to Pearl, which I am not familiar with but I know people thought was excellent. The Wiki slug says, “Maxine sets out for fame and success in 1980s Hollywood while being targeted by a killer known as the ‘Night Stalker.'” I mean, you could just say, “while being targeted by the Night Stalker.” He was a real person who really killed a ton of people. He’s not a fictional character.  I haven’t seen this movie and I’m not familiar with the X series, but as someone who was alive in Los Angeles while Richard Ramirez was at large, I am not overly thrilled with the idea of placing him into a potentially campy horror film. He was extremely horrifying. I say this as someone who enjoys horror movies! (Although I do always enjoy telling the story of how he was caught: A bunch of folks in Boyle Heights recognized him from his mug shot, chased him down, caught him, and beat the shit out of him while they waited for the cops to come. He very much had it coming.) Anyway: I guess people were instructed to wear their corniest 80s Hollywood looks to this premiere, although a lot of them veered into…disco? I dunno. What the Barbie press tour hath wrought!
