Gabriela Hearst won the Womenswear Designer of the Year award from the CFDA this year, the first time a woman has nabbed it in five years, and followed that up by moving her show to Paris when Covid struck down Fashion Week in New York. The vibe veers beachier than I expected — which made sense when I then read that she said the inspiration was a shell bracelet — and while the resulting collection feels somewhat all-over-the-place to me, I can at least relate to wanting a bunch of options right now that are light on waistbands.
