Happy Friday, y’all! Welcome to the end of another week. I hope you had a good one, and that your weekend will be delightful! I had a big week personally, because (as we discussed in the first post today, which was a brag post, so get in there and brag on yourself!) I was on last night’s Jeopardy! It was SO FUN and I really encourage anyone who thinks they’d like to be on Jeopardy to try out. Thank you so much to everyone who has been so excited and supportive about it! You really made the entire experience so special.

MOVING ON: Oh, we had a fun post this week where we shouted out our favorite small businesses! We also talked about our favorite charities and philanthropic organizations!

Great reporting from my friend Alissa Walker in NY Mag: “‘The Mayor Knew’ Eric Garcetti’s top aide was a serial harasser, according to multiple accusers. The mayor, they say, ignored it.”  I’m pretty steamed about this entire thing, although I hated him before this, and can’t wait for Garcetti to get out of the city. (Does everyone hate the mayor of their nearest major metropolitan area?)

This story will decrease your blood pressure, as it is delightful: The ‘Mighty Mo’ begins her second century as a swimming champion. [LA Times]

I might be into this: Awkwafina will fight vampires in upcoming Dracula film, Renfield, with Nicholas Hoult and Nicolas Cage [Lainey]

I’m also at least intrigued by this: Miley’s New Year’s Eve. (Pete Davidson will be high, right?? He does not have NYE energy to me! Although I have a big fondness for Pete.) [Lainey]

Super interesting: The escalating costs of being single in America [Vox]

Sigh. If you’ve been just…not taking on what’s happening with Roe v. Wade and the Supreme Court at the moment, Bitch has a great explainer of the details: What’s Very Likely To Happen: The “Roe v. Wade” Endgame Comes to SCOTUS.

At NPR: 10 Stephen Sondheim songs we’ll never stop listening to

Over at The Stripe, Grace has been putting out gift guides all week and, while they’re all good, this one might be my favorite: Gift Guide: F*ck it.

Very funny, at Vulture: An Attempt to Make Sense of This Year’s Netflix Christmas Movies.

Some of the people I follow on Instagram have been ALL OVER this crazy story and it’s fascinating: ‘Magic dirt’: How the internet fueled, and defeated, the pandemic’s weirdest MLM. (I didn’t realize it was an MLM! I just started listening to The Dream podcast and I have THOUGHTS. It’s SO interesting, thank you to whoever it was in here who originally recommended it. There was a moment in one of the episodes where my jaw literally dropped.) [NBC News]

Time for some legal catch-up: The Latest in the Trials Against Jussie Smollett, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Elizabeth Holmes [Pajiba]

This story is stressing me out: The WTA pulls all tournaments out of China as Peng Shuai is still being detained. [Celebitchy]

But this story is pretty amazing: Hiding in plain sight: How one of the country’s most-wanted fugitives led a quiet life in Lynnfield. It has a death-bed confession in it! [Boston Globe]

Super interesting: Who Owns a Recipe? A Plagiarism Claim Has Cookbook Authors Asking. [NYT]

ALSO super interesting: Why Is Fashion So Obsessed with the Metaverse? [GQ]

Definitely here for THIS: Every Kirsten Dunst Role, Ranked [Vulture]

This entire story made me chuckle: “Seth Rogen smoked ‘a ton of weed’ before attending Adele concert special, didn’t realize the show would be televised.” This seems on brand for him! (He tells the story very well.)
