I must confess that this first look is a dream for me — Black Watch plaid and argyle and a great coat and a little sparkle. If I were a person who needed to leave the house wearing stuff, this is the sort of stuff I’d want to wear to leave the house. It’s preppy and a little flashy, but not too sweet. It basically reminds me of the Jenna Lyons-heyday of J.Crew, when I wanted to buy everything and look cheerfully  eccentric, although it is in fact Michael Kors Collection. (J.Crew is in fact currently selling some Black Watch plaid pants, although they’re not cut like these at all and also everything in their store was 40% off this weekend so I think the days of cheerful eccentricity are over and they’re now just financially stressed. If J.Crew goes out of business, I’m gonna be bummed!)

This next look is a Lela Rose dress that Emily wore to one of the morning shows, and it’s just very simple and good on her, and makes sense for morning TV because it won’t wake you up too aggressively:

I feel soothed.

And I needed soothing, because this last one is…phew:

'Mary Poppins Returns' film screening, Arrivals, New York, USA - 17 Dec 2018

Listen, Emily, I know you’ve been working with Lin Manuel Miranda, but that doesn’t mean you’re required to show up dressed like a discount Aaron Burr.
