Cate Blanchett received a Style Icon award last night from InStyle, and in her speech, she challenged a repugnant thesis that — in the wake of the Weinstein accusations (or confirmations) — people as varied as Donna Karan and Mayim Bialik have posited, either verbally or in writing. And Cate shot it down with refreshing bluntness: “We all like to look sexy but it doesn’t mean we want to f*ck you.” Whether or not you are someone who has ever wanted to look sexy, the universal truth is that an outfit is not consent. Period.

(She chased that with, “No one says to Steve Bannon, ‘You look like a bag of trash. Do you want me to throw you out?'” Which…. YA BURNT, Steve.)
